Connor Freeman: How Israel & Netanyahu Propped Up Hamas

Todays guest Connor Freeman explains how Israel and Netanyahu governments propped up Hamas, through Qatari money, in order to split the West Bank from Gaza and prevent a Palestinian state. As crazy as this sounds, it is an open secret and openly discussed in Israeli/US media before and after October 7th.

"People on the right said similar things. One of the mantras being repeated was that of newly elected MK Bezalel Smotrich, who in 2015 told the Knesset Channel that “Hamas is an asset and Abu Mazen is a burden,” referring to Abbas by his nom de guerre. In April 2019, Jonatan Urich, one of Netanyahu’s media advisers and a Likud spokesman, told Makor Rishon that one of Netanyahu’s achievements was separating Gaza (both politically and conceptually) from the West Bank. Netanyahu “basically smashed the vision of the Palestinian state in these two places,” he boasted. “Some of the achievement is related to the Qatari money reaching Hamas each month.” A Brief History of the Netanyahu-Hamas Alliance For 14 years, Netanyahu's policy was to keep Hamas in power; the pogrom of October 7, 2023, helps the Israeli prime minister preserve his own rule Ada Raz Oct 20, 2023 Haaretz

“The significance of the disengagement plan is the freezing of the peace process. And when you freeze that process, you prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, and you prevent a discussion on the refugees, the borders and Jerusalem. Effectively, this whole package called the Palestinian state, with all that it entails, has been removed indefinitely from our agenda. And all this with authority and permission. All with a presidential blessing and the ratification of both houses of Congress.

The disengagement is actually formaldehyde. It supplies the amount of formaldehyde that is necessary so there will not be a political process with the Palestinians. The disengagement plan makes it possible for Israel to park conveniently in an interim situation that distances us as far as possible from political pressure. It legitimizes our contention that there is no negotiating with the Palestinians.

And we educated the world to understand that there is no one to talk to. And we received a no-one-to-talk-to certificate. That certificate says: (1) There is no one to talk to. (2) As long as there is no one to talk to, the geographic status quo remains intact. (3) The certificate will be revoked only when this-and-this happens – when Palestine becomes Finland. (4) See you then, and shalom.” Top PM Aide: Gaza Plan Aims to Freeze the Peace Process "The significance of the disengagement plan is the freezing of the peace process," Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's senior adviser Dov Weisglass has told Haaretz, Oct 6, 2004

“Although not necessarily reflecting a GOI consensus view, Yadlin said Israel would be "happy" if Hamas took over Gaza because the IDF could then deal with Gaza as a hostile state. “Israeli and international media have reported that Netanyahu’s plan to continue allowing aid to reach Gaza through Qatar was in the hope that it might make Hamas an effective counterweight to the PA and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. PA officials said at the time the cash transfers encouraged division between Palestinian factions…

Shlomo Brom, a former deputy to Israel’s national security adviser, told the New York Times that an empowered Hamas helped Netanyahu avoid negotiating over a Palestinian state, saying the division of the Palestinians helped him make the case that he had no partner for peace in the Palestinians, thus avoiding pressure for peace talks that could lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.” Qatar sent millions to Gaza for years – with Israel’s backing. “Then-U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin, who was in charge of finance for the campaign to reelect Donald Trump and who is Jewish, agreed to a request from Netanyahu and sent an additional letter to Doha, this time from Washington, in effect, ensuring Qatar that the funding of Hamas would not be considered funding terror” Top Secret: In a 2018 letter, Netanyahu asks Qatar to fund Hamas In letter seen by handful of people, PM urges Doha to deliver $30 million to Gaza monthly, claiming funding Hamas would preserve regional stability and avert humanitarian crisis Nir (Shoko) Cohen Ynetnews 05.05.24

“Israeli authorities approve plan to “legalize” five settlement outposts unauthorized under Israeli law; settlers from those outposts have carried out 27 attacks against Palestinians in 2024.

Since 7 October, OCHA has recorded 28 incidents of airstrikes, during which 77 Palestinians, including 14 children, have been killed in the West Bank, including two during the reporting period.

“GENEVA (5 July 2023) – Israeli air strikes and ground operations in the occupied West Bank targeting the Jenin Refugee camp and killing at least 12 Palestinians may prima facie constitute a war crime, UN experts said today.

“Israeli forces’ operations in the occupied West Bank, killing and seriously injuring the occupied population, destroying their homes and infrastructure, and arbitrarily displacing thousands, amount to egregious violations of international law and standards on the use of force and may constitute a war crime,” the experts said.

Between 3 and 4 July, Israeli forces killed at least 12 Palestinians, including five children, and injured more than 100 Palestinians, in one of Israel’s biggest military operations in the occupied West Bank in years. The attacks forced thousands of Palestinians to flee and damaged infrastructure, houses and apartment buildings.

"It is more important now to look ahead. Well, the strategic purpose, to create a situation in which Hamas will not exist as a body with military capability, is correct, in fact necessary. Those who hope that the 22 settlements that were attacked will be repopulated and that parents will agree to raise children there, must prove by actions that there is no longer a threat. This goal cannot be achieved by bombardment from the air, and it is doubtful whether it is right to risk a prolonged ground operation. Therefore, the State of Israel has no choice but to make Gaza a place that is temporarily, or permanently, impossible to live in."

“WASHINGTON, June 28 (Reuters) - The Biden administration has sent to Israel large numbers of munitions, including more than 10,000 highly destructive 2,000-pound bombs and thousands of Hellfire missiles, since the start of the war in Gaza, said two U.S. officials briefed on an updated list of weapons shipments.

Between the war's start last October and recent days, the United States has transferred at least 14,000 of the MK-84 2,000-pound bombs, 6,500 500-pound bombs, 3,000 Hellfire precision-guided air-to-ground missiles, 1,000 bunker-buster bombs, 2,600 air-dropped small-diameter bombs, and other munitions, according to the officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly.” Exclusive: US has sent Israel thousands of 2,000-pound bombs since Oct. 7 By Humeyra Pamuk and Mike Stone June 29, 2024 Reuters

“Currently, only 14 per cent of areas in #Gaza are not under the “evacuation orders”. Every other day, the Israeli Authorities issue these orders forcing people to flee, creating havoc + panic.

Quite often, people have just a few hours to pack whatever they can & start all over again, mostly on foot or on a crowded donkey cart for those who can afford it. Almost everyone in Gaza has been impacted by these orders. Many were forced to flee on average once a month since the war began nine months ago.

A man told our @UNRWA teams recently that  he was forced to flee twice within 10 hours.

People continue to search for safety: the most precious, the most nonexistent. This evacuation tactic only brings more misery, fear and suffering for people who have nothing to do with this war.

The people of #Gaza are not pinballs or chess pieces, they are people” Philippe Lazzarani UN Commissioner General 28th July 2024

Earlier on Friday, Israel's Channel 12 reported on a tense exchange between Netanyahu and the defense chiefs, in which Shin Bet head Ronen Bar said, "It feels like the prime minister doesn't want the framework that's on the table." Turning to Netanyahu, he added that if that is the case, "you should tell us.”...  The report also quoted the head of the Missing and Captive Soldiers Division in the IDF, Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon, who told Netanyahu: "You know that all the parameters you've added [to the framework] will not be accepted and there will be no deal."
